Description
It looks as though a polished steel cylinder met a moment of controlled force—then froze in a perfect crumple. Paolo Ulian’s Compressioni Wine Cooler starts life on a lathe as a seamless, mirror-bright sleeve. At the last step the walls are pressed inward, creating muscular folds that lock the double skin together and form tidy geometric ribs—squares edging into pentagons, hexagons giving way to octagons. No two compressions fall in exactly the same place, so each cooler carries its own map of facets and reflections.
Fill the hollow with ice and slide in a bottle; the air pocket between the inner and outer walls keeps the chill steady while your table steals glances at the sculpted surface. When not on duty, it stands like a small piece of metal origami—proof that a single decisive gesture can turn sheet steel into something close to jewelry.
