Since the early 1960s, Ruscha has played a central role in changing how artists use printed matter. His artist books helped define a new language for conceptual photography and publishing, while his graphic works pushed across a wide range of printmaking techniques. This catalogue brings those projects together in a detailed, carefully organized reference.

Compiled by curator and print scholar Siri Engberg, the catalogue raisonné entries include detailed data, new photography, full-color images of all prints and photographic editions, and a photographic inventory of each artist book’s cover and interior pages. The three volumes separate the material clearly: essays in Volume 1, books in Volume 2, and prints and photographic editions in Volume 3.

The set also includes essays by Engberg and artist book specialist Clive Phillpot, Ruscha’s 1975 text “The Information Man,” a selected bibliography, exhibition history, and photographic visual archives documenting Ruscha’s work with print workshops and collaborators.

Co-published with Gagosian, New York, this clothbound three-volume set offers a substantial reference for collectors, curators, libraries, designers, and anyone interested in Ruscha’s influence on artist books, printmaking, conceptual photography, and contemporary editions.

Damien Hirst, Pharmacy London https://shop.gessato.com/damien-hirst-pharmacy-london/ https://shop.gessato.com/damien-hirst-pharmacy-london/#respond Fri, 15 May 2026 13:01:34 +0000 https://shop.gessato.com/?post_type=product&p=172759 Pharmacy London is a ten-volume artist’s book by Damien Hirst, published by Steidl in a signed and numbered limited edition of 750 boxed sets.

In 2005, Hirst began photographing every dispensing pharmacy in the Greater London area. The project took more than a decade to complete and includes images of 1,856 chemists, pairing exterior views of London’s pharmacies with portraits of the pharmacists behind their counters.

The result is both a photographic record of the city and a continuation of Hirst’s long-running interest in medicine, pharmacy, classification, and belief. These themes have appeared throughout his career, from the Medicine Cabinets he began in 1988 to his 1992 installation Pharmacy, in which he recreated a chemist inside the gallery.

Across 3,800 pages and 3,565 images, Pharmacy London turns an everyday urban fixture into a large-scale visual archive. Organized by London borough, the set moves through the city volume by volume, creating a portrait of place through repetition, signage, storefronts, counters, products, and the people who work within them.

Anja Niedringhaus Photography https://shop.gessato.com/anja-niedringhaus-photography/ https://shop.gessato.com/anja-niedringhaus-photography/#respond Fri, 15 May 2026 12:46:43 +0000 https://shop.gessato.com/?post_type=product&p=172751 The book presents the first comprehensive survey of the work of Anja Niedringhaus, the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist whose images documented some of the defining conflicts and crises of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Niedringhaus photographed the siege of Sarajevo, the flight from Kosovo, the aftermath of September 11, the battle for Fallujah, children playing in Kabul, and Western troops on patrol in Kunduz. Her work for the Associated Press took her across Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, Gaza, Israel, the West Bank, and Afghanistan, where she was killed in 2014 while on assignment.

This publication goes beyond the iconic war photographs for which Niedringhaus is best known. Across seven volumes, it traces her early black-and-white work, her beginnings in local newspaper photography, her color images from the wars in the former Yugoslavia, and her later assignments covering politics, society, international conflict, and sports. The book gives a fuller view of a photographer who worked with courage, discipline, and an unusually clear eye for both history and everyday human presence.

With 1,308 pages and 1,132 images, this ambitious edition is produced as seven hardcovers housed in a handmade wooden slipcase. Edited by Gide Niedringhaus, it offers a substantial record of Anja Niedringhaus’ career and a lasting document of the people, places, and events she photographed.

A major publication for collectors, photography enthusiasts, historians, journalists, and anyone interested in the visual record of contemporary conflict.

A Chef’s Journal” by Daniel Humm is an evocative collection that chronicles the transformative journey of Eleven Madison Park, his three-Michelin-Star restaurant, into a wholly plant-based culinary destination in 2021. Through spontaneous and painterly drawings of fruits and vegetables, ranging from the familiar carrot to the exotic matsutake mushroom, Humm celebrates the rich diversity of plant-based ingredients. Accompanied by handwritten notes, the book delves into the ideas, convictions, and uncertainties that guided his decision to reinvent the renowned restaurant. It offers a window into the chef’s thoughts and struggles, reflecting on societal norms, culinary possibilities, and the fear and excitement of charting a new course. Whatever You Say, Say Nothing – Gilles Peress https://shop.gessato.com/whatever-you-say-say-nothing-gilles-peress/ https://shop.gessato.com/whatever-you-say-say-nothing-gilles-peress/#respond Fri, 12 Jan 2024 00:36:15 +0000 https://shop.gessato.com/?post_type=product&p=100838 Gilles Peress’ “Whatever You Say, Say Nothing” is a profound exploration of the Northern Ireland conflict, captured through the lens of documentary fiction. At the young age of 26, Peress first documented the British Army’s massacre on Bloody Sunday in 1972, and in the 1980s, he delved deeper into the region’s tumultuous history. This work organizes a decade of photographs into 22 fictional “days,” reflecting the repetitive and spiraling nature of the conflict. It encompasses days marked by violence, unemployment, mourning, and even moments of ‘craic’ – brief escapes from the grim reality. Held back for 30 years, this 1960-page publication, featuring 1295 images, challenges conventional documentary photography, inviting readers to interpret and unravel the complex tapestry of meaning. Accompanied by “Annals of the North,” a complementary text-and-image almanac, this ambitious project pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Jakob Tuggener Books and Films https://shop.gessato.com/jakob-tuggener-books-and-films/ https://shop.gessato.com/jakob-tuggener-books-and-films/#respond Thu, 11 Jan 2024 18:42:08 +0000 https://shop.gessato.com/?post_type=product&p=100687 “Books and Films” offers a comprehensive look into the world of Jakob Tuggener, an artist who captured the dichotomy of modern life, ranging from the grim ambiance of factories to the opulence of high society. Tuggener’s fascination with various elements of modernization, including railroads, ports, and car races, is evident in his work. From the mid-1930s, he created hand-crafted book maquettes containing up to 150 original photos, exploring these themes. While only “Fabrik” was published during his lifetime, this compilation includes facsimiles of twelve original maquettes, dating from 1936 to 1982, alongside a selection of his 16mm films. Tuggener’s silent black-and-white films and photobooks, devoid of text, reflect his artistic vision. This publication, co-produced with Fotostiftung Schweiz and the Jakob Tuggener Foundation, marks the first time a broad audience can fully appreciate the depth and range of Tuggener’s work, an insightful journey through the contrasts and narratives of his era.

Ways to Tie a Tree https://shop.gessato.com/ways-to-tie-a-tree/ https://shop.gessato.com/ways-to-tie-a-tree/#respond Thu, 11 Jan 2024 18:05:54 +0000 https://shop.gessato.com/?post_type=product&p=100679 Woong Soak Teng’s photography book presents a unique exploration of Singapore’s man-made garden city through the lens of its staked trees. Captured between August and December 2015, the book offers a thought-provoking perspective on how urban planning molds nature to fit human-designed landscapes. Teng’s work highlights the often overlooked, yet vital, role of supporting structures in maintaining the aesthetic harmony of city trees. Her approach to tree-tying, blending productivity with aesthetics, reflects the complex relationship between nature and human intervention. With a consistent, frontal photographic style and detailed captions pinpointing each tree’s location, Teng’s book not only documents the physicality of these trees but also imbues them with a topographical significance. The images, balancing between abstract elegance and stark reality, invite readers to contemplate the subtle yet profound ways in which urban environments shape and are shaped by nature.
