When Cristina Lanza, a cosmetics executive, and Davide Carbone, a graphics designer, met in their native Italy, their mutual love for their country's style and culture as well as for their soon-to-be-adopted city of New York led to a collaboration of mind, spirit and talent that is now known as Gessato.
They were aware of a void in the market for men's luxury skin care products that went beyond just a surface appeal but actually remedied the needs and problems that are unique to men's skin and grooming. So in 2005, they decided to fill that void by creating Gessato. Gessato's men's skin care products are manufactured and marketed in the United States with an Italian sensibility for time-hewn craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail.
The very name, Gessato, is personal to Cristina and Davide. First, it describes the chalk-stripe suiting fabric that sets the tone for the products and packaging, inside and out, and refers to the traditional elegance of contemporary Italian aesthetics and culture. But it also pays homage to their families who were both steeped in Italy's Biella area textile traditions.
The company's logo and packaging reflect Gessato's blend of old-world tradition and natural ingredients improved with the most technologically advanced formulations. It reflects Gessato's mission to honor the past while also looking to the future. The noble lions of Italian royalty, a symbol of richness and strength; the naturally stark silver and white palette, symbols of peace, serenity and well being; and the Latin motto, "Providentiae memor" (with gratitude for divine guidance) converge to outwardly represent the essence of Gessato's products.
